I painted this little cabin while on the drive north through British Columbia, in a magical spot near Vine Lake in the shadow of Needlepoint Mountain. The lady we met there had built the cabin herself, and welcomed us with classic Canadian warmth (in spite of the fact that we were lost and had stumbled upon her cabin by happy accident). She gave us a tour of her off-grid home, and then leant us her canoe to take out on the lake for a peaceful paddle. The kindness and goodness of strangers, and the open-hearted hospitality of those who live in the far north, is truly a beautiful thing.
